When Italian brothers Giuseppe and Gaetano Mascolo opened their first hair salon in Clapham in 1963, few could have predicted that it would turn into one of the world’s largest hair businesses.

Giuseppe (better known as Toni) and Gaetano (known as Guy) arrived in England in the 1950s from a small town in southern Italy. Following in the footsteps of their father, who ran a barber shop and hair salon in their native town of Scafati, they set up Toni&Guy and quickly expanded their chain of salons across the UK and the world.

They were innovative from the start, catering to both women and men at a time when salons were often segregated by gender. They also introduced the ‘look book’, so that clients could pick hairstyles that they wanted from a series of photographs.

The Mascolo brothers expanded into hairdressing academies and several successful product lines. Today, TONI&GUY operates in 48 countries around the world and has become an iconic British brand.
